The U.S. Embassy Praia of the U.S. Department
of State has announced an open competition for organizations to submit
applications to carry out a program to support the growth of a professionalized
press corps in Cabo Verde.
Objectives
- This program seeks to award a
cooperative agreement for up to $80,000 to host four quarterly conferences
bringing the Cabo Verdean press corps together to gain knowledge and tools
to better combat fake news, discuss the principles of investigative
journalism, and how to ethically and responsibly report on fake news in
the Cabo Verdean context amongst other topics. As part of the
cooperative agreement, U.S. Embassy Praia will provide additional speakers
for these conferences either virtually or in person.
- In addition to hosting these
conferences, the grantee is expected to work with the Public Diplomacy
Section (PDS) at U.S. Embassy Praia to identify press outlets who need equipment
upgrades, purchase the equipment and provide the equipment to the
specified press outlets.
- Applicants should budget for
equipment purchases for five to ten press outlets, for conference space
